First Day of School

Introduction
"Do you remember the first day of school?" the teacher will ask the students. Were you scared at all? "Did you feel nervous?" Many of us had very different first-day-of-school experiences. The teacher will display the book We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins and announce that the story will be read. We will learn about Penelope and her first day of school in this activity. We'll see if we can relate to her, listen to your classmates' first-day-of-school stories, and think about how we could have helped Penelope.
Task
The book "We Don't Eat Our Classmates" by Ryan T. Higgins will be read aloud by the teacher. After reading, students will use Wordclouds to create a world cloud with words describing how they felt on their first day of school. After completing this, students will start writing a short story about their first day of school. After finishing their story, students will give a short speech about whether or not they related to Penelope in the story.
Process
-
Read aloud We Don’t Eat Our Classmates, by Ryan T. Higgins.
-
Students will use Worldclouds to describe how they felt on their first day of school, such as excited or nervous.
-
They'll then begin writing a short story about their first day of school. The story should explain/connect the emotions experienced on the first day of school to adjectives found in the world clouds. Students will then seek one to one with the teacher to fix any errors and write final draft.
-
Students will then present and read their final draft.
-
After sharing their story, students will explain how they did or did not relate to Penelope in the story

Conclusion
On the first day of school, students will be able to share their experiences. Students will be able to express their feelings and listen to other people's stories, learning how everyone has a unique story. Students will be able to brainstorm using the world clouds and learn new vocabulary by describing their emotions or their first day of school. In addition, students will have the opportunity to practice their writing skills, give an oral presentation, and connect with the main character of the story.
